What Laura Offers:

Laura specialises in providing telephone psychological support and intervention for patients with cancer and those closest to them. Her area of expertise is helping people adjust to and cope with diagnosis, treatment and recurrence and the effects these can have on people’s lives. Laura can also support patients making decisions about treatment.

Laura can help you make sense of the situation and help you get ‘back on your feet’ helping you to return to your normal family, work and social roles.

Laura brings a wealth of experience with over 30 years of working with people affected by cancer. She can draw on her extensive knowledge of the difficulties and concerns you can encounter from diagnosis onwards.

Laura’s background:

Laura specialised in cancer nursing for 20 years. She led a Cancer Research UK clinical trials research nurse team for 10 years at the Royal Free Hospital London before training as a Health Psychologist specialising in cancer.

Since 2010, Laura has worked as the Macmillan Honorary Health Psychologist providing psychological support and intervention for patients with ocular melanoma (eye cancer) at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is also the Health Psychology Fellow in Oncology at the University of Liverpool. She works independently for OcuMelUK a national charity supporting patients with ocular melanoma https://www.ocumeluk.org/

She has carried out and published research in cancer care and clinical health psychology.

If you wish to proceed, then she will offer a 60-minute assessment session with you on the telephone during which you will be able to talk about how you are feeling and together you can discuss what would be helpful for you at this time. Further sessions will be 50 minutes and will be tailored to suit your individual needs.
